Working principle

A pendulum of known energy is used to impact the sample supported as a vertical cantilever beam once, and the energy absorbed when the sample is broken is measured. The impact line is a fixed distance from the sample holder. For a notched sample, the impact line to the center line of the notch is Fixed distance. The testing machine should be of pendulum type, and consist of pendulum, sample support, energy indicating mechanism and body and other main components, which can show the impact energy absorbed during the destruction of the sample.

Izod impact strength of unnotched specimen: The ratio of the impact energy absorbed by the unnotched specimen during cantilever impact to the original cross-sectional area of the specimen, expressed in KJ/m2.

Izod impact strength of notched specimen: The ratio of the impact energy absorbed by the notched specimen during the cantilever damage process to the original cross-sectional area of the specimen at the notch, expressed in KJ/m2.
